It’s nice to be home

Or what do I know? I managed to stay home for one and a half day before it was time to get on a train again. This time for the yearly tradition of celebrating easter in the summer house with mother dearest. So on the Friday I woke up to a differnt kind of breakfast.

After a visit to the grandparents grave we stopped at our, now traditional, truckers stop for some food. I enjoyed myself a real nice shrimp sandwich.

This on our way to the city where we went to see the absolutely amazing movie Zootropolis. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a must! And no, you don’t need to have small kids to go. It was nice with some good laughs.

Total quality time with the mother!

Me and my new companion

With summer finally arriving to Sweden, I decided to take advantage of the fact that I work in a place that allows for working from home. So yesterday afternoon me and my new companion jumped on a train to the summerhouse.

image

Having a discount voucher for first class I enjoyed my free coffee and mini brownies. I tried working on the train, the Internet Gods weren’t on my side so I had to read my fav mag, Vi Läser, instead (real rough).

Arriving at my destination I was met by my mother and oldest niece, aaaaw! And as we arrived at the house, brother-in-law was just finished at the grill, dinner is served.

The big test, aka day 4, aka train time, aka family weekend

Up to this Friday I have been moving about in the big(!) city of Malmö and living life without data on the phone has been easy. This weekend brought a train ride towards the countryside with it, and time for the biggest test of them all! The summer house have no internet connection any more, that went to heaven (or so) together with daddy, so now you have to bring your own. Thus, there was with trepidation that I sat down on the train together with my lunch this Friday mid-day.DSC_0770

DSC_0771And since I was a tad bit late in the booking of my train tickets for this trip, the outbound ride was a first class session that not only come with free coffee, they also have mini brownies!DSC_0772The train ride went surprisingly smooth for being me and jumping on the commuter train that take me from the fast train to the small village closest to the summer-house, there was a good surprise waiting for me.DSC_0774My second oldest cousin was on the train as well. He decided to arrive on location a day early for some male grooming and if I know him correctly, an opportunity to make new friends. So I could put my book away and have a lovely chat with him rather than sit and be grumpy over my lack of connection and inability to post pointless statuses on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Surprises like that are always nice, I had a similar one a few years back with the older sister if this cousin. That time we were both travelling home to Gotham to attend our Grandmothers funeral, this time the reason was a bit more festive as that Grandmothers babybrother was celebrating his 80th birthday. Life works in wonderus ways sometimes.

I jumped of the train a stop or so before my cousin, he only got to wave to his aunt through the window of the train as she was waiting to pick me up and he continued to the city for a night in town (I have heard he had a good time). The evening without WiFi went smoothly as I have a couple of games on my tablet that doesn’t require you to be online all the time, so it almost felt like I was in civilization, and then of course I had the wonderful company of my mother.

What a week!!

Arriving home from Greece was no fun, leaving 35 degrees and sun for 15 degrees, rain and cold. Then on Monday my summer course started, Tuesday was back to work, Wednesday was work and school and then on Thursday it was exam time as I had to re-sit one of the exams from spring.

Last night it was celebration time;

Ok, so I didn’t drink all of them myself however I was still tired at work today. At least it was an early day in order for me to make it to my train, destination summerhouse! I’ve brought my computer hoping that I can finish the rest of the blog posts about the wonderful vacation in Greece, in addition to that I’m carrying loads of textbooks both for my summer course and the micro economic class that start in September. Let’s see how much I actually get done.

How’s your week been ma peeps?

From kinder eggs to pulled pork

Going to the summerhouse with mother dearest can be a quite peaceful affair, summerhouse with the nieces is quite the opposite. I did have a quite peaceful start to the day, how can you not with a view like this?

image

After that it’s been full speed ahead, maybe fueld by the Saturday candy, even old auntie got some.

image

image

The sun was shining so we decided to head to the lake for the day. If it was just me I would be ready in the time it takes to make a pot of coffee, with two kids and their mother it takes loads longer. However we made it! With coffee and interesting cinnamon bun;

Someone got her hair braided;

image

I’m also getting a bit spoiled as sister dearest have stocked up on things that I like that doesn’t fit in the student budget, such as chips, dip, soda and the total fav mozzarella and tomato;

image

While we were away brother-in-law was working on the house and proving that men can multi-task as well with homemade pulled pork and a coleslaw to die for.

This first day of the long weekend will be ended with Costa Rica vs Holland, if we are lucky we’ll manage to stay awake for the whole thing, there are doubts…

The road to four-day weekend

Originally I was planning to work until four or five and then get on the train to the summerhouse, I then realized that my nieces would most likely be in bed by the time I arrived. Thus as the loving auntie I am, I changed my plans and left the office by three to make the train at four. As usual I also posted my standard public service announcement;

image

Packing went a bit quicker than expected (still waiting to see what I forgot) so I had time for my standard routine before heading out; a quick stop at o’learys at the Centralstation.

image

image

image

Before getting on the train I walked around the station checking the menu at all the food places and the food counter in the kiosk, really wanting something to snack on, without finding anything I really wanted. So here is a lesson in totally blowing your budget, find some beersticks and a beer on the train and pay crazy prices for the same.
image

Settling in for the two hour trip it was decision time, be a good student or just chill. Guess what I decided!

image

There is one train switch on this trip, the smoothest switch ever as the trains arrive and depart from the same platform.

image

image

It was yet again a smooth ride and I’m starting to believe that the traingods might have forgiven me. And arriving to my destination I was very happy that I took the earlier train as not only my sister but also my two nieces were waiting for me on the platform. After hugging and kissing I received some flowers.

image

I was also ordered to sit in the back seat next to my youngest niece and as we arrived to the house I also received in writing that I am the world’s best auntie! And tacos, but we were all so hungry that the food was long gone before I even considered taking a pic.

image

Right now we are just waiting for the football to finish, then it’s of to bed so, god night ma peeps!

The night before total whack day!

Despite the non-existing train this morning, I made it to my destination, which happened to be the summerhouse. Even though I love going here for no reason what so ever, this time I have one; it’s biking time!

Yes, for the third year in a row I will be heading out on a 100k bike ride tomorrow!  Today was spent with some preparations like picking up our numbers,

image

Eating healthy,

image

Packing the bag with the necessities for tomorrow,

image

And of course, laying out the uniform, the same outfit will be used for the third year in a row, so if you see pictures of me tomorrow and think that you’ve seen them before, no it’s not reused pictures from previous years.

image

The rest of the evening will be spent watching TV just chillin with the family and as soon as the children are asleep there should be some Frost shown.

Easter

This long easter weekend has been absolutely fab! Awesome weather, quality time with mother and auntie, loads of studying done and peaceful quietness at the summerhouse.

image

image

image

I also won on bingo!

image

And then there was the excitement of going home, not actually going home but for the first time since I moved south in 2007 the train was set to leave from platform 2!

image

All previous times both arrival and departure have been from platform 1 thus the photo. However, I should have known better, me and trains! When the train arrived it neatly pulled up at platform one as usual. This is where it would have been nice if the platforms were in the middle with a track on each side. This isn’t the case, instead there is a rather high walking bridge over the tracks with winding stairs on both sides. If it wasn’t for the fact that o had, with the help of mother, to pick up all my stuff and run I would have taken a picture. With that start to the trip though the rest went smoothly and I arrived home without issue. Unfortunately it means back to the everyday life of work and studying.

How was your easter?
